Fort Lauderdale police were investigating a near-fatal crash Thursday morning involving a Toyota Scion and a bicyclist in the 2700 block of Davie Boulevard.
The crash happened shortly before 9 a.m. when a man riding on a red bicycle collided with the Scion, said police spokesman Sgt. Patrick Hart.
Hart said the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet. He was taken to Broward General Hospital in critical condition.
The hospital is telling us "it is not looking good'' Hart said.
The Scion appeared to be heading south on Northwest 27th Avenue and making a left turn onto Davie Boulevard when the car collided with the bicycle.
I understand that a lot of us do not wear helmets when we ride. I know I don't. With the race coming up next weekend. I encourage people to throw some protection on their heads. Their will be an advantage for the folks that think twice and wear a helmet. Be careful!
